Lucid Technics was a technology consulting practice founded by David Hodge in 2005 and later joined by partner Bediako George. For sixteen years, we served as technical leaders to startups finding their footing, nonprofits scaling their missions, Fortune 500 companies navigating transformation, and government agencies modernizing critical systems.
Lucid Technics wasn't a body shop or a staff augmentation firm. We embedded as technology leadership — sitting at the executive table, shaping strategy, making architecture decisions, and building the engineering cultures that outlasted our engagements.
Our clients didn't need another consultant with a slide deck. They needed someone who could see the whole board: the technology, the team, the business model, the compliance landscape, and the path from where they were to where they needed to be.
Small teams, asymmetric impact. We built custom software with lean, focused engineering teams that punched well above their weight — delivering complex financial systems, large-scale RESTful APIs, and mission-critical applications that gave our clients capabilities their size and budget shouldn't have made possible.
Cloud migration through developer enablement. We guided organizations and their engineering teams toward application modernization, helped leadership understand and optimize their FinOps costs, built scalable testing practices from web accessibility to performance, and led efforts to create universal shared services across the enterprise.
We built tools we believed in and shared them openly. Alongside client engagements, we created open source frameworks that powered much of our delivery work.
An open source code generation framework for Google App Engine and AWS. Airlift was the engine behind much of our delivery — it let us rapidly stand up secure, scalable cloud applications and spend less time on infrastructure code and more time on business logic.
An English-based domain specific language for describing business applications. Write plain English requirements — data models, audit rules, security constraints — and Dictation would generate working software through Airlift, cutting typical project timelines by 50% or more.
Replaced a fax-and-paper interpreter scheduling operation with a full cloud workflow on Google App Engine. Orders, assignments, smart encounter forms, invoicing, and payments — all automated. We also applied predictive machine learning to optimize interpreter scheduling.
Built natural language processing and predictive analytics tools to automate XBRL tag selection in SEC corporate filings — transforming an extremely manual annotation process into an intelligent, machine-assisted workflow.
Lucid Technics is no longer taking on new engagements, but David Hodge continues to work at the intersection of innovation, disruptive strategy, and technical leadership. If you're a former client, collaborator, or someone who wants to connect — the door is always open.
